About Centrestage Agency
Centrestage Agency is a highly reputable and professional theatrical agency which represents young performers in film, television, theatre, musical theatre, and commercial work. We pride ourselves on our hands-on style of representation, our honesty and accessibility in dealing with our artists and our extensive industry connections and knowledge.
Our agents, Britnie Johnston and Melissa Quinn, under the guidance of Ian White, possess combined backgrounds in performing, teaching, production, casting, and arts administration. Together they bring over 40 years of industry experience to the agency. This means that not only have we established strong industry contacts and relationships over the years but also that we have the ability to guide young performers as they develop their skills and confidence in preparation for careers as professional performers.
The agency represents children from the ages of 4 to 19 only. For information about our adult agency please see Ian White Management. Centrestage Agency was established in 2000 in response to a growing need to provide professional representation for the children training as actor/singer/dancers at Centrestage Performing Arts School. Since then, the agency has expanded to include performers from outside the school and is now considered one of Melbourne’s foremost children’s drama agencies.
Admission to Centrestage Agency is by audition only as this allows us to assess new performers' individual potential and to ensure that they are put forward for the right roles. Casting directors trust our recommendations because they know that we have taken the time to understand our actors’ unique skills and abilities.
COMMITMENT TO CHILD SAFETY
All children who work within the organisation of Centrestage Agency have a right to feel and be safe. The welfare of the children in our care will always be our first priority and we have a zero tolerance for child abuse and bullying. We aim to create a child-safe and child-friendly environment where children feel safe and have fun.
This policy was developed in collaboration with all of our staff, volunteers, and the children and parents who use our services. It applies to all staff, volunteers, children and individuals involved in our organisation. For more information, please visit Commission for Children and Young People Victoria.
Joining Centrestage Agency
Centrestage Agency is always interested in seeing talented and outgoing young performers wanting to work professionally in film, TV and theatre. See JOINING for information on our annual auditions.
You must be between 4 and 19 years old to audition.
Performers must live in the greater Melbourne area and be able to attend castings at short notice.
No experience is necessary; however we prefer all of our clients to have some training behind them. It is highly recommended that all performers represented by Centrestage Agency undertake regular acting classes to keep themselves at their peak. We recommend classes at Centrestage Performing Arts School so that we can monitor clients' progress and therefore speak with confidence to casting directors of their potential. If classes at Centrestage are not feasible, then there are several other organisations that we can recommend upon request.
What does an agent actually do?
The role of a theatrical agency such as Centrestage is to find professional work for our performers appropriate to each individual performer’s skill-level and profile. We are the first point of contact for casting agents and producers who are looking to cast a particular role and it is our job to know where each of our performer’s abilities lie so that we can put forward the right person for the right role.
